Well, Im a Jeddah boy. So that tells you a lot about my car tastes (NO, the crazy ghetto drifters are a lower class of motorsport here  ). I LOVE tuning cars, although I have very little/almost no experience (simple clear marker installations, carbon fibre slap-ons, etc) :D hope you guys can help me !

I got some questions though before I jolly down to the dealer and pick up a preowned (*GASP* its my first whip, according to my father "you have to start out small") R35.

1- I read a lot about the GT-R needing good cooling. But that could be a major problem here in the kingdom (40 C + highs weather in the summer), what do you guys do to cool down your beasts? Im planning on purchasing an AAM Competition Intake V1 ($470, its kind of a steal) to battle this. Is that enough cooling?

2- How crazy are the shipping costs when you purchase big mods (weights 10 lbs+) off the internet?

3- Whats the performance difference between US-spec GT-Rs and GCC-spec GT-Rs? I read something about the latter not having satnav...could that be added later through the dealer if ever released, or is the actual hardware not available on the GCC-spec?

4- Any tips regarding performance mods? Which mods are most suitable for this kind of weather? Which mods are most beneficial in terms of HP/Tourqe gain?

5- If you could tell me what you think of these mods, Id be very indebted to you!
COBB Access Port
AAM Competition Air Intake V1
COBB Tuning Y-pipe, uncatted
Deatschwerks 1000 cc Fuel Injectors
HKS Super Firing Racing Spark Plug (range 9)
Motul15w-40 oil (read about it somewhere on this forum)

THANKS!!

Oh, and if you could (pretty) please list some common problems faced by GCC-spec owners, or even US-spec owners, that would be very very helpful

do you plan on importing a US Spec to there or?

Trying my best to find an '09 Middle East-spec, but if all else fails, I will grab an imported US-spec.

so, No :D
just wondering, could you answer some of my questions^? thanks!

Hi and welcome. There are several guys in Saudi Arabia own the R35 GT-R. It would be probably best to ask them on the opinions, but here are my two cents.

1. The cooling is mostly on the transmission, not the engine, although cooler air will help the engine, but most people were having problem with cooling the transmission when tracking the GT-R hard. Any transmission cooler will help, HKS just recently released a cooler for it, and I think it will be great to fight the heat in your area.

GT-R came with it's own oil cooler, but if you want to upgrade, AAM makes a pretty nice unit.

2. On the shipping, it's hard to say depends on your county VAT and products you are buying. You will have to contact the shop you deal with for quote.

3. If you import a US model, then the Satnav will be useless anyways. I don't think anyone has yet successfully load the correct map outside of the US.

4- Definitely get the cooling done first. Then once you get that situated, you can go with power and suspension mods.

5. COBB Access Port - stealth and easy way to make more power.
AAM Competition Air Intake V1 - increase air flow to engine.
COBB Tuning Y-pipe, uncatted - easy to swap and make more power
Deatschwerks 1000 cc Fuel Injectors - necessary when you make huge horsepower.
HKS Super Firing Racing Spark Plug (range 9) - same as above.
Motul15w-50 oil or 20W60 (read about it somewhere on this forum) - most people use this when they do a lot of racing. For normal days, Mobil 1 0w40 will be good enough.

There are saudi R35 owners here? cool.

I wont be doing much track-work just yet. If I really have my adrenalin pumping, some traffic light launches (with new Nissan launch maps) at most. Maybe 0-180 kmh runs in "closed courses" once in a while ;D Do I still need to slap on $5k for the weather? any useful power gains due to higher airflow/colder temps. to the transmission?

Im not too familiar with the power upgrades for the GT-R aside from the aformentioned ones/turbos. if u could shoot some aftermarket part names at me that would be great!

For upgrades, check our staged upgrade list.

Hi T/A,

Hope all is well in Jeddah.

I wanted to lead on from ATL Supra's comments on a few things:

1) I've had my GTR for just on 1 year now and have started to notice this year going into sumer that the transmission temps are getting a lot hotter than they were this time last year. I put this down probably to the oil - whilst the car has only done 5070 miles - I think it's time to change the oil temps. Thus, even though the Nissan recommended is around 15,000km (9260 miles) I think this is less over here. Whatever you can do for this in terms of cooling for the transmission will be great.

2) As a rule I've found its been about 10% of the equipment costs to get things from the states - that's using air freight. If you wait longer and sea freight that'll be less - but who wants to wait right!

3) There is no performance difference. GCC does have Satnav, Km/h speedo, clear markers and some other things which I cannot remember. It was a huge premium a year ago and I still think there is quite a cost difference between the type specs.

4) I can't offer anything more than the info you'll find at speedforsale.com but simply the standard performance mods for all turbo JDM cars offer huge gains... Exhaust Mid/Y pipe and down-pipes release huge power, Cobb is unbelievable, Intercooler piping and Intercooler too. You can easily get 150hp + plus from all of this.

5) Comments for each:
Cobb AP - The international standard but you will loose your warranty full stop if you run this.
AAM - Not too sure about the power on this but you will get a small benefit.
Cobb Y Pipe - I run the AAM Resonated Y Pipe. I'm biased but it's one of the best sounding out there.
Deustworks - I don't think these will be necessary at the stage you are at but definitely as you add more parts to the engine they will be required. There are other sizes to consider first though before something as big as the units you are suggesting.
HKS - not too sure but the experts at SFS will know best.
Motul - a big definite. This oil has a higher weight will offers better lubrication in our higher temps.

Good luck and PM if you want to talk more.

i dont think u got my pm... How many barely used GT-Rs have u seen at UAE lots? I heard lots cancelled orders and dealaers want to dump'em. Lookin for a 2009 model premium, r35 not much of a thing here.

Out of experience

COBB Access Port - The best mod ever
AAM Competition Air Intake V1 - Problems with high maf voltage "Get the Cobb intake or Forge intake"
COBB Tuning Y-pipe, uncatted - Great price and one of the biggest on the market
Deatschwerks 1000 cc Fuel Injectors - My 950cc's were untunable, I ordered a set of 1000cc Injector Dynamics
HKS Super Firing Racing Spark Plug (range 9) - No comment
Motul15w-40 oil (read about it somewhere on this forum) - I use Willall Fuids
